In appreciation for his services on board the SEMIRAMIS, Lord Colville presented Lt. Monday the barometer with his complements on April 23, 1825. In addition to the bound volumes there is also a list containing three columns which possibly correlates to some of the sketches. There are also two loose pages with writing on both sides, which seems to pertain to the Prince William Sound area and the canoes there. There is also a loose sketch. The list, sketch and pages are contained in separate folders which are kept in Box 2. These volumes are attributed to William Ffarington who served in the Royal Navy. The time period is not given for all of the volumes, but several have dates relating to their creation in 1809. Within he gives detailed sketches and notes for various Merchant Marine and Royal Navy vessels, as well as including examples of ships from all over the world. Volumes 1 and 3 contain detailed drawings and information for vessels of the Merchant Marines and the Royal Navy. These volumes give their creation date as 1809. Volumes 2, 4 and 5 mostly feature watercolor illustrations of a wide range of craft, with examples of vessels from all over, including Jamaica, China, France and Scotland. Volume 4 contains descriptions and illustrations of boats from China, with included cultural notations. Volume 3 is unique amongst the volumes in giving the origin of the London Docks for the site of its creation, and while the other volumes have no similar notes it would be reasonable to assume they were undertaken duirng his Naval career, considering the variety of vessels and locations.MS0589
